API Inspector
Job Description
The API Inspector ensures mechanical integrity compliance by performing and overseeing nondestructive inspections (NDE) on fixed equipment and piping in a chemical plant. This role requires both hands-on inspections and coordination with API-qualified contractors. The inspector manages inspection schedules, repair plans, and compliance records while supporting reliability and continuous improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform and document inspections (VT, UT, PT, MT) on piping, tanks, and pressure vessels.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, API (510/570/653), ASME, ANSI, and NBIC standards.

Analyze inspection results, track corrosion rates, and set reinspection frequencies.

Create repair plans and recommend corrective actions for equipment and piping.

Support reliability, failure analysis, welding procedures, and project inspections.

Oversee third-party inspectors and advanced NDE techniques.

Maintain inspection records in SAP or other systems.

Provide technical input for inspections, welding, repairs, and equipment testing.
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree preferred).

3+ years of experience in inspection/repair of stationary equipment or piping in chemical, oil & gas, or food/beverage industries.

API 510/570/653 certification (or in progress).

Knowledge of mechanical integrity, pressure vessels, and safety devices.

Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

SAP/CMMS experience preferred.

CWI certification, PSM/GMP knowledge, and large plant experience a plus.
Physical Requirements:

Lift up to 60 lbs., climb, bend, and work in confined spaces or at heights.

Must be available for overtime and shutdowns as needed.

Work safely around hazardous chemicals and high temperatures (up to 2400°F)
